The U.S. Education Crackdown: What Happens to the Rest of the World?

This episode is also available on Spotify!

In our latest conversation, we discussed the unraveling of the U.S. education system — and why it's both a tragedy and a strange kind of opportunity.

Visa denials, censorship lists of banned words, and the crackdown on international students show that the U.S. isn’t just losing its academic leadership in the global arena. Historically, education was a key instrument of exporting the American Dream™. However, now what we see is an active dismantling of its own educational system.

This collapse is the culmination of decades of political resentment toward education and it follows the classic authoritarian script: weaken critical thought to centralize power. But while Americans are the first victims of their own educational decay , the ripple effects hit globally.

As the U.S. burns bridges with scholars worldwide, countries like France and China are rolling out the red carpet (albeit with their own censorship baggage). This creates a crucial opening for the Global South: to rethink, rebuild, and value local education systems .

While The collapse of the U.S. education model is concerning it is also a nudge for the rest of the world.
